“I Just Want my Child to Feel Okay Again”
Something’s changed. Maybe your child used to light up when playing sports or hanging with friends but now they’re withdrawing, melting down, or panicking over things that never used to upset them. School is harder, emotions feel bigger, and no matter what you say or do, it feels like nothing helps.
You’re not alone. So many parents are quietly navigating this: kids who are anxious, overwhelmed, and stuck in cycles of avoidance, meltdowns, or reassurance-seeking. And parents who are doing everything they can but still feel helpless. Maybe your child has always been sensitive or anxious. Maybe this is new. Either way, you’re here because you’re ready for something different. You want them to feel calm, capable, and like themselves again. You want your relationship with them to feel less strained and more connected. And you're wondering… is therapy the right next step?
A Therapy Experience That Doesn’t Feel Forced
Here’s the thing: most kids don’t walk into therapy eager to talk. Some feel like they’re being sent because they’re “the problem.” Others have tried therapy before and felt misunderstood, talked at, or just plain uncomfortable.
That’s why I approach therapy differently. As a child therapist and psychologist, I specialize in helping kids and teens feel heard, respected, and understood—right from the start. I use a collaborative approach that includes you, the parent, so you’re not left guessing what’s working. My sessions are flexible and kid-friendly. For those who don’t love sitting still or making eye contact, I offer walk-and-talk therapy, which is a movement-based option that helps kids feel more at ease. Because therapy should meet your child where they are at.
What Happens When Things Start to Shift
When kids begin to feel seen and safe, something changes. They start opening up. They gain tools to understand what’s happening in their minds and bodies. And over time, they begin to believe: “I can handle this.”
Here’s what you might start to notice:
Fewer meltdowns
Fewer panic moments
More confidence in school, sports, and friendships
Better ability to self-regulate when things feel hard
Less anxiety around grades, performance, or social situations
And just as importantly you’ll feel more empowered, too. You'll know what helps your child and what might be unintentionally feeding their anxiety.
Therapy That Supports the Family
When your child struggles, it impacts the entire family. That’s why I work closely with parents and caregivers so you’re not left on the outside wondering what’s going on behind the therapy door. Whether it’s check-ins during the appointment, parent appointments, sharing tools and strategies, or knowing what to say during a hard moment, we work together to create change
Your Child Deserves to Feel Safe, Strong, and Understood
If you’re searching for a child therapist or psychologist in Westlake, OH who understands both the emotional life of children and the daily reality of parenting them, I’d love to connect. My practice is warm, non-judgmental, and individualized for the child and family.
No matter how stuck things feel right now, change is possible. Let’s talk about what’s going on and how we can help your child move forward.
More About my Approach
My patients typically come to see me weekly or biweekly so they have consistent support and they can move from feeling stuck or powerless to enjoying their life. I will often integrate a skill, art/writing activity, or a different way to think about a situation. This may not always look like worksheets or homework (not many kids are psyched about “homework”) but I do like to give tips for kids and to better understand themself, their situation, and exercises to try out in between appointments. I also work with parents with guidance and strategies to try in between appointments. It’s not uncommon for kids and teens to feel reluctant to start therapy. I find that during the first appointment they realize therapy doesn’t have to feel scary or annoying and instead it can be calming and relieving.
"I Don’t Want This to Hold Me Back Anymore"
Are you a kid or teen doing your own research on therapists? By the way, that’s amazing if you are!
Parents feel free to show this section to your kid or teen.
“I’ve had it. I’ve always had anxiety, but today was too much. I completely lost it during my game today. That’s the one place I used to shine. Now I just feel like something's wrong with me.”
If this sounds like you, you're not alone. Many kids and teens are dealing with stress, anxiety, and overwhelming emotions they don’t know how to talk about. For some, school feels impossible. For others, it’s sports, clubs, or friendships that used to bring joy but now just add pressure.
And let’s be honest: a lot of kids and teens aren’t excited about therapy. They’re worried they’ll be judged, told to "just calm down," or be treated like something is wrong with them. But that’s not what therapy has to be like.
I Help you to Feel Understood and In Control
I specialize in working with kids and teens who are tired of feeling anxious, stuck, or not like themselves. Whether it’s daily meltdowns, school avoidance, reassurance-seeking, or panic around grades or sports, I help kids and their families break free from these patterns. My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and centered around connection. I know kids and teens won’t open up unless they feel respected and safe and that’s where we start. As long as you’re comfortable, I will also work with your parents or caregivers on strategies and ways to best support you
The First Session Often Feels Better Than They Expected
I often hear from teens and kids, “That wasn’t as bad as I thought” or even, “It felt good to say that out loud.” The biggest change? They start to feel heard. Seen. Like someone finally gets it and they’re not just being “dramatic” or “too sensitive.”
From there, things start to change. We work together so you will learn how to:
Feel more calm in your body
Understand what’s happening in your thoughts
Build confidence in managing tough situations
Stop getting stuck in anxiety spirals
A Therapy Experience That Feels More Natural
For kids and teens who are a good fit and aren’t into the idea of sitting in a room making eye contact with a stranger, I offer walk-and-talk therapy. Moving side-by-side outdoors can make conversations feel easier and more relaxed, especially for kids who process best when they’re moving. This flexible approach helps make therapy feel less formal, awkward, or stressful.

Frequently Asked Questions About therapy in Westlake
-
Most children do not have the attention span or developmental level to sit and talk face to face for a long period of time (some do and that's great too). Child therapists will often incorporate play or art into their appointments and strategies to make them child friendly. Parents are also typically involved either in a separate appointment or for part of the appointment.
-
Sometimes it can be hard to know for sure! I always feel like if you're not sure it's okay to ask. You can always start with your child's pediatrician or family doctor. Some signs or clues to look out for are withdrawal, clinginess, sleep or appetite problems, any problems at school or with friends, stomachaches or headaches, or a general change from how they usually are.
-
Over time I have found that for most families it works best if I meet with parents first for a separate appointment and then your child or teen. Usually in the first appointment we are getting to know each other. I will ask questions to better understand the situation and I welcome questions from parents and kids/teens.

I am not in network with any insurance companies. If you would like to use your insurance, check with your provider to find out what your out-of-network benefits are. I am happy to provide you a superbill to submit to insurance for reimbursement. My fee is $250 for the first appointment and $200 50-minute follow up sessions.

This is not uncommon for kids and teens. I try to take the pressure off by building trust over time. It’s actually okay if kids don’t talk during the first appointment (but usually I find they do as they settle into the appointment). Walk and talk therapy is a great option for kids who feel more comfortable talking while moving rather than sitting.

There is a lot of overlap in these professions and all can provide support. Generally, a psychologist has a doctoral degree and is trained in diagnosis, testing, and therapy. Therapist is a general term for someone trained to provide therapy, typically with a masters degree or doctorate. This can include psychologists, social workers, and marriage and family therapists. Counselors typically refer to a licensed professional with a master’s degree in counseling who help individual through different issues.
