ADHD Evaluations

Westlake, OH

ADHD Testing and Personalized Treatment

You are a parent/caregiver and your child’s teacher has told you that your child is bright but not working up to the potential. Maybe there’s been comments that they’re not paying attention or talking too much and disrupting the class. Part of you thinks, don’t all kids do this? But part of you also wonders, could this be ADHD?

Maybe you are a kid/teen and you’ve stumbled upon my website. You’ve have heard comments from your parents or teachers that they wish you would just apply yourself more. Maybe your friends have pointed out that you flake out on plans or don’t listen when they are talking. You’ve tried to pay better attention and get it together and you do for a while but it’s hard to stay consistent. Maybe someone at some point has suggested you have ADHD or perhaps you’ve seen information online about ADHD that has made you wonder, could this be something I have?

If either of these stories sound like you/your child then an ADHD evaluation may be able to help. If these stories don’t resonate but you have been wondering if you or your child has ADHD you are also in the right place.

My name is Alison Flowers and I am psychologist in Westlake, OH.

I provide comprehensive evaluations for ADHD for children and teenagers as well as treatment (therapy) for symptoms of ADHD and behavioral concerns. Therapy for ADHD typically includes; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and/or parent training.

What to expect:

The Details:

  • After an initial phone call to make sure there is a mutual fit for the evaluation process I will send you intake paperwork including questionnaires for you and your child’s teacher to complete online and send back to us.

  • Parents/caregivers will meet with me for an information gathering appointment (intake).

  • Your will meet with me for an interview and psychological testing (this will look like answering questions and solving puzzles).

  • After the assessment is done I will review results, recommendations, and diagnosis with parents/caregivers. Your child may also be involved for part or all of this appointment depending on age and preference. I have found that often children and teens want to know more about what this process uncovered. A comprehensive report will be sent to you and anyone you would like on your child’s treatment team (pediatrician, school, therapist, etc).

  • After the assessment process you and your child have the option of following up with me for treatment. Typically CBT and/or parent training is recommended for ADHD. During treatment I will have parents/caregivers and teachers fill out questionnaires to help us get a better picture of what is improving.

  • Interested in medication management of symptoms? I am happy to collaborate with your child’s pediatrician or primary care doctor as well as provide recommendations for local psychiatrists.

Frequently Asked Questions for ADHD Evaluations

  • Providers use a combination of an interview, rating scales, and psychological tests (cognitive function and ability to sustain attention)

  • Pediatrician's and family doctors do a great job in assessing and diagnosing ADHD! However, they are often limited in the time they can spend and they have different resources. Often when symptoms or presentation is not straight forward families are referred to a psychologist for a more comprehensive evaluation. Families also see me when they want confirmation, a second opinion, or want psychological testing completed in addition to rating scales.

  • The cost of an ADHD evaluation is $2500. This includes the initial interview with parents/guardian, child interview, psychological administration and interpretation of psychological tests and questionnaires, and report writing time. Additional treatment (therapy appointments) are an additional cost.
